Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius was the victim of racist abuse by Valencia fans. During a visit to the Mestalla stadium in May 2023 during a La Liga match. And three fans were later identified and arrested.
The Spanish court reportedly sentenced the three to a maximum of 12 months in prison. But reduced their sentences to eight months due to their guilty pleas and a two-year ban from football matches instead of three. They will all pay their legal costs and read out statements of apology to La Liga, Vinicius and Real Madrid.
“This verdict is good news regarding the fight against racism in Spain. As it corrects the wrongs suffered by Vinicius Junior and sends a clear message to those people who go to football stadiums to abuse others. La Liga will identify them, report their behavior and will take criminal action against them.” Tebas said.
