Follow the idol: James Maddison free-kick technique reveale
When talking about the free-kick godfather of the Premier League in this era
I believe many people would think of James Ward-Prowse, the midfielder on loan at Nottingham Forest, Who has score 17 free-kick goals in the Premier League, second only to David Beckham.
However, many people may have forgotten that Spurs’ number 10 playmaker James Maddison is also a sharp free-kick taker, having recently scored a stunning free-kick to help his team beat Aston Villa 4-1 at home.
Revealing James Maddison’s free kick technique
James Maddison has revealed his childhood background as a huge Manchester United fan. That David Beckham was his idol. That he was influenced by the former England star in many ways, including his free-kick skills.
“Beckham’s name was always printed on the back of my shirt. I would practise his free-kicks in the back garden. And when I was at school I would go on YouTube and watch a lot of his free-kick videos.”
After regularly practicing his free-kick skills like his idols, James Maddison has emerged as a modern-day set-piece god. He has nine Premier League free-kick goals, level with Frank Lampard, and since his first Premier League appearance in 2018, only James Ward-Prowse has taken more direct free-kicks.
The 27-year-old midfielder once explained to the Premier League’s official media how he takes free kicks.
“Always take the same number of ทางเข้า ufabet steps back. I take four steps back. Use my left foot as my pivot foot. I always stand with my left foot in front of me. Think because I grew up with Beckham and he did the same. I tend to take two or three short steps to gain distance. When I get into a rhythm I try to take as many steps as possible,” James Maddison revealed
“One thing about goalkeepers in the Premier League, they are so quick and agile. You need to be very quick or they will fly to save it. I used to practise free-kicks just because I like doing them and I know the more I practise the better I get.”
